Welcome and thank you for visiting.
My name is Scott Henady, and I have been practicing therapeutic massage since 1997. This encompasses a number of styles and techniques including sports massage, deep tissue massage, myofascial release, a form of Chinese orthopedic massage called tui na, active and passive stretching and more.
A therapeutic massage session is built around treating the issues you’d like to address at the time you come in. This is distinct from a spa session that is meant to demonstrate a certain style of massage in a specific span of time. Both a therapeutic session and a spa session may be modified to accommodate your requests when you come in, but a therapeutic session is specifically planned around what you would like treated.
As a massage therapist who has also studied Chinese medicine, I believe in an integrative or complementary approach & recommending additional modalities as well as follow-up self-care when appropriate. This may include western orthopedic medicine, physical therapy, chiropractic care, exercise, dentistry, acupuncture and/or herbs, mental health, vision care and more.
In recent years, our health system has come under extra strain due both to the COVID pandemic and the politics surrounding it. As a result, I no longer consider myself an “alternative” therapist. Peer-reviewed science has been under active attack & antivaccine conspiracy theories have come to have far too much weight in the health care discussion. Unfortunately, with the direction of media & politics, “do your own research” is less likely to lead to accurate, verifiable facts rather than conspiracy theory rabbit holes. In this environment, I try to be more diligent about confining my practice to the limits of my training & experience & referring to other professionals outside of my experience.
To be clear, I am not suggesting that Western medicine & pharmaceutical companies are above reproach. In general though, I believe the medical community backed by peer-reviewed science has the best information & best intentions. Politicians & those steeped in conspiracy theories, not necessarily.
I welcome introductions to potential clients who can benefit from the style of massage I practice as well as health practitioners supporting complementary & integrative health care models. If you’ve had a great experience with your session, please do share it with your friends & health care providers. If you have an awesome health care provider, I’d love to have them to refer to when I have clients who could benefit from their services, as opposed to referring to a generic discipline.
